Mattie Bekink is responsible for the Economist Corporate Network’s China strategy, including program development and client engagement across China. She also provides support to all Economist Corporate Network programs worldwide with a China component.

Mattie has extensive experience in the public, private and policy sectors. Prior to joining the Economist Group, she was the Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission in the Netherlands. She also ran an eponymous consulting business, advising senior executives from businesses, universities and non-profit organizations on China policy, strategy, public affairs, and corporate social responsibility. Mattie practiced law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, has worked with the US0Asia Law Initiative at NYU Law School and the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative China Program, and served in the legal department at General Motors China.

Mattie has a BA in International Relations from Stanford University and a JD from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Daniel Koldyk was appointed to the Embassy of Canada to China as Counsellor (Economics and Finance) and Chief Representative of the Department of Finance to China in August 2018. In this role, he leads the Embassy’s macro economic analysis of greater China, strategic economic and financial policy and financial services advocacy for the China market. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank and as Representative to the Financial Action Task Force, an inter-governmental body that addresses issues related t omoney laundering and terrorist financing.

Prior to this post, Daniel was the Special Advisor on China and Asia for the Department of Finance Canada. He also worked on Chinese economic reform and international investment with EDC Economics and served as a China specialist for the Canadian foreign ministry.

Daniel completed an MPhil and doctorate at the University of Oxford, St. Antony’s College, and spent close to nine years in Beijing, Shandong and Liaoning researching issue srelated to economic and political policy making. He has a Master of Arts in East Asian Studies from the University of Toronto and an undergraduate degree from the University of Western Ontario.

Daniel has published his research in North American, European, and Asian journals and won several research awards, including the University of Oxford’s Wai Seng Senior Research Scholarship and a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellowship.

Mark Kruger is Yicai Global's Opinion Editor and a Senior fellow at the Yicai Research Institute.

He also hold senior fellow appointments at the University of Alberta's China Institute and the Centre for International Governance Innovation.

Mark was formerly a Senior Policy Director in the Bank of Canada's International Department, a Senior Advisor to the Canadian Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund and head of the Economicand Financial Section in the Canadian Embassy in Beijing.

He began his career at the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission.

Stuart Mercier is a Managing Director and Country Head for China, overseeing all of Brookfield’s operations and institutional relationships. Mr. Mercier also has direct responsibility for Brookfield’s Real Estate activities across Asia including business development, investment and portfolio management.

Mr. Mercier joined Brookfield in Hong Kong in 2012 before relocating to Shanghai to establish Brookfield’s mainland Chinese operations. Prior to joining Brookfield, Mr. Mercier held various investment roles within a boutique Asian real estate investment and advisory firm. He also held various positions at Oxford Properties, the global real estate platform of the OMERS pension fund.

Mr. Mercier received a BA from Bishop’s University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Hong Kong and London Business School, where he was the recipient of the Haitong Securities “New Generation of Leaders” scholarship. Mr. Mercier serves on the board of the Canada China Business Council and is a Global Governing Trustee of the Urban Land Institute.
